SAHIN STOOL MAKING COURSE

During this two-day stool-making course, we begin with an introduction to green woodworking, where participants will become familiar with the essential tools, the shaving horse workbench, and the underlying principles of the stool’s construction.

We will then split logs from freshly felled ash using a froe and splitting axe. The final parts are shaped with an axe, drawknife, and spokeshave. By the end of the first day, we will have drilled the necessary holes and assembled the stool’s post-and-rung frame. On the second day, we will shape the ends of the legs, apply a milk paint finish, and complete the stool by weaving a paper-cord seat.

The newly made stool should be allowed to dry for several weeks in order to achieve the full strength of its mortise-and-tenon joints.
