LOUNGE CHAIR
SUMIN

Lounge chair SUMIN explores the lasting relationship between ashwood and leather — two natural materials whose character deepens with time, use and the patina of everyday life. The ashwood frame is crafted using old and clever green woodworking method where you take advantages of green wood, both in the processing and in structural connection of wet and dry detail as a joint. As the wet detail dries, it shrinks tightly around the tenon, creating an exceptionally strong and durable joint. This allows us to make the most of the wood while creating a long-lasting construction.

The frame’s warm, chocolate tone with a golden glow has been captured through years of experimentation of the photochemical oxidation of black tea and artisan-brewed iron citrate under the Estonian sun. The process creating a deep, wear-resistant finish that forms a contemporary dialogue with the softness of the leather cushions, while allowing the natural character of the ash to remain visible.

The construction is not hidden but becomes part of the character of the chair. Leather cushions with feather filling bring softness and comfort, while allowing the materials to age naturally and develop a patina through use. The chair is designed to be maintained, lived with and passed on rather than replaced.

SUMIN explores a slower form of production, where traditional knowledge, honest materials and careful making shape contemporary furniture made to endure. One chair should last as long as the tree has grown.
